ActiveRain Meet Up in Tarpon Springs-Florida

We met at Billy's Tarpon Turtle on Lake Tarpon; we had less show up than signed up but we had a great lunch and a good meeting. The weather was wonderful and we had fun!

We talked about ActiveRain, real estate, how to do stuff on Facebook, and we ate!

Helicopter Egg Drop at Tarpon Springs High School Today 11am

Next Level Church is hosting an Easter event today at Tarpon Springs High School, 1411 Gulf Road in Tarpon Springs-Florida. Thousands of eggs are scheduled to be dropped onto the school’s football field.

A traditional egg hunt is also planned for kids 1-5. Bring your own basket for collecting the eggs.

The event is free.

A Sunday Spent By the Water in Tarpon Springs-Florida and Pooka Bear's Birthday

This has been a beautiful Sunday. We spent most of it by the water which always makes me feel good.  

The weather was in the 70's with a great breeze. We enjoyed Art on the Bayou (pictures soon). And, then we went to Captain Jack's Tiki Bar also on the water for a birthday party for our good friend Pooka Bear. She's 8 today and looks great - Pooka is a Wheaten Terrier. Captain Jack's Tiki Bar is pet-friendly.

Pooka Bear has been drinking lots of water to stay hydrated. Smart Pooka. Captain Jack's is on the Anclote River. We used to put our boat in there and head out to the inter-coastal waterway. We don't have a boat these days.

Art on the Bayou is this Weekend March 31-April 1, 2012  at Craig Park in Tarpon Springs

Known by most of us simply as Art on the Bayou, the 38th Annual Fine Arts Festival on the Bayou is this weekend. It’s a wonderful event with various artists exhibiting their art all around Spring Bayou.

The setting is gorgeous with lots of trees, the bayou breezes, and all kinds of great things to look at and/or buy. There are lots of food vendors to choose from, music and entertainment also and things for the kiddos. The Tarpon Springs Chamber website has details.

I Can’t Wait! I love this event. It starts at 9am on Saturday.

Antique Automobile Club of America - Richey Region held a very successful car show in Tarpon Springs - Florida

Held on March 3, 2012 the Autos for Autism Show had over 220 cars in the show which was located right down the main part of Tarpon Avenue in the historical area of Tarpon Springs. Cars were lined up in rows of two or three on the street.

I’ve put a quick slide show together to give you an idea of the scope of this show; it’s only a minute and a half long showing some of the cars. It’s just to show you what folks can do when they come together for a great cause. (Don't worry, it doesn't have all 220 cars in it....just a taste.

The AACA was founded in 1935 and the local Richey Region Chapter began in 1975. They did a fantastic job on the car show; it was great fun.

Pelican Point Seafood Market in Tarpon Springs Florida is full of Fresh Seafood

Pelican Point Seafood Market is located at the end of the Sponge Docks at 933 Dodecanese Blvd. in Tarpon Springs-Florida. They are right next to the Rusty Bellies Restaurant and whenever you go you will see fishing boats at the pier unloading their fresh loads. Call them at 727-934-3134.

Even this Happy Lobster likes fresh shrimp.

A great place to take a Sunday stroll and go shopping. Check out the Sponge Docks website.

Tarpon Springs Florida is a Quirky, Crazy, Wonderful Town

We love Tarpon Springs especially downtown. On our way home from the Autos for Autism car show last week, we couldn’t use our usual street because it was full of antique cars - 3 rows across.

We ended up taking side streets; ones that were one way and the other way so we got to see some areas we hadn’t seen before. We stumbled upon this home with it’s certified American Garden. It has beautiful flowers, plants and interesting old garden “decorations”.

The wonderful porch went almost all the way around the house.

The gardens were lush and natural including the back garden with it's bridge.

Notice the old "washing machine" with it's mangle.

The Mad Hatter General Store in Tarpon Springs Florida

While I was at the Autos for Autism event on Saturday,. See my previous post, I wandered into and out of several of the really cute antique, and clothing boutiques. Mainly to take advantage of the air conditioning because it was a hot day.

I found a cute boutique called The Mad Hatter General Store which sells hats, really nice hats and lots of pretty dresses and accessories.  

But on my way out of the store, the window display kind of hit me in my camera eye. The manikin’s skirt is made of playing cards and I was impressed with the window dresser’s creativity.

I guess that's why she owns a store and I don't.

The Facebook page says it is an eclectic spin-off on the traditional general store "you never know what you will find"

I believe it.

Autos for Autism Hosted by The Antique Automobile Club of America in Tarpon Springs-Florida

Autos for Autism is a Charity Antique Auto Show scheduled for Saturday, March 3, 2012 in Downtown Tarpon Springs (Tarpon Ave).

The show is open to all classes of cars and trucks. There will be lots of trophies, door prizes, Chinese Auction, Goody Bags, and Oldies music to enjoy.
And you can meet Jake of TV’s Tail Fins and Chrome.
Registration starts at 9am to noon;  and awards are presented at 3pm. Registration donation is $15.00. and is limited to 300 cars so call right away.
