Are you aware that in Florida you can reduce your home-owner’s insurance by a substantial amount if you have a wind mitigation inspection, and your home qualifies.
Most existing homes have one or more wind resistive construction features and may qualify for some insurance discounts. In addition, houses built after 1994 in Miami-Dade or Broward Counties and houses built after 2002 in the rest of the state have many wind resistive construction features and will likely qualify for credits.
Did you know that some home inspectors can do a wind mitigation inspection for you and submit it to your insurance company. The insurance company then submits it to their underwriters and in one to three weeks will let you know what your savings is. We just had this done and reduced our insurance by $500 a year. You can use this calculator to determine what your savings might be. The inspection fee varies but most charge $75-$125. Your insurance savings can be anywhere from $100-$600 per year.

Toni, this is great information for those needing to reduce the cost of insurance! I had no idea this was available!
I don't know if it's available all over the country, Joan. I know that here with the increasing cost of home owner's insurance, anything that can help with reducing it is great!
I did not know this and this is one of those posts that I wish I could reblog. :-(
I heard that Reblog isn't working? Thanks anyway, Debra.
Absolutely! Wind mitigation saves a bundle of cash and can be done by any home inspector worth his salt!
Good Morning Toni...That's great info! That should save people a lot of $$$$
Hope you have a great day!---Rob
Barbara-Jo, it's my understanding that the inspector has to have a certification in order to be able to submit the report to the insurance company.
Rob - that's the idea! Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
